CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cleveland Cavaliers officially announced the signing of Chris "Birdman" Andersen on Friday morning.

Per league and team policy, terms of the contract were not released, but multiple media outlets have reported the 38-year-old center has inked a one-year deal for the veteran's minimum.

Andersen, a two-time NBA champion and former teammate of LeBron James, averaged 18.3 minutes, 4.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 0.5 blocks in 20 games (14 starts) while finishing the year with the Memphis Grizzlies last season. - CLICK HERE to read full story.

LeBron James: The Godfather of one-year deals for NBA superstars
Author: Joe Vardon
Publication: Cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio – LeBron James could be on the verge of something unprecedented -- an NBA superstar agreeing to his third consecutive one-year deal and leaving millions in guaranteed money on the table.

If that's what he does – takes a one-year, $27.5 million contract with a player's option for 2017-18 with the Cavs – he'd be the fourth league star to agree to that kind of deal this offseason. Kevin Durant, Dwyane Wade, and Pau Gasol have already done it.

When it comes to this kind of one-year deals for superstars, James is the godfather. He was the first to ask for one under the current collective bargaining agreement when he returned to the Cavs from Miami in in the summer of 2014. (It's entirely different from Michael Jordan's one-year contracts in 1996 and 1997). - CLICK HERE to read full story.

Jason Lloyd: Has any Eastern Conference team done enough to stop Cavaliers-Warriors ‘threequel’?
Author: Jason Lloyd
Publication: Akron Beacon Journal

For all the trades and free-agent signings that shook the NBA this month, one truth emerged quickly during my short stay in Las Vegas last week: Nothing has really changed.

A number of executives believe June will end with a Cavaliers-Warriors “threequel” — except this time the outcome will be reversed.

Eastern Conference executives polled during summer league believe the entire conference is still chasing the Cavs, and the Cavs will be chasing Kevin Durant and the Warriors for the championship. - CLICK HERE to read full story.

Cavs make Chris ‘Birdman’ Andersen signing official

Publication: Fear The Sword

The Cavs made the move official in a press release sent out on Friday. Per the release, Andersen will wear 00 with the Cavs. Andersen has been linked with the Cavs for about a week now and per previous reports, Andersen will sign a veteran’s minimum deal with the Cavs. Cleveland did not disclose the value of Andersen’s contract in their release.

Andersen, 38, played with both the Miami Heat and Memphis Grizzlies last season. He played in 27 games, 15 of which were starts, and averaged 3.9 points and 3.6 rebounds in 14.9 minutes per game. Andersen is also a former teammate of LeBron James’ and won a title with the Heat in 2013.

For the Cavs, he provides depth up front with the departures of Timofey Mozgov and Sasha Kaun. It’s hard to see him playing a ton of minutes considering his age and Channing Frye’s presence, but against bigger teams, he could play roughly 10 minutes per game with little issue. - CLICK HERE to read full story.

NBA champ Kyrie Irving goes for gold in Rio
Author: Dave McMenamin
Publication: ESPN.com

LAS VEGAS -- Kyrie Irving says Mike Krzyzewski calls him "the one that got away" because Irving's career at Duke lasted just 11 games in his freshman season before he declared for the NBA draft.

This summer, Irving is making up for lost time, committing to play for Krzyzewski and USA Basketball despite coming off an intense calendar year that started with a six-month rehab after knee surgery and ended with the longest NBA season imaginable, helping the Cleveland Cavaliers win the championship in a seven-game Finals.

"Part of me would have wanted to probably think about rest and think about what's going on, but I can rest in training camp or getting ready for the season," Irving told ESPN.com this week at Team USA training camp in Las Vegas in preparation for next month's Rio Olympics. - CLICK HERE to read full story.
