Cavs trying to use trade exception by Monday deadline; exploring tiny chance of getting Carmelo Anthony

NEW ORLEANS -- The Cavs are trying to use a trade exception that expires Monday and also continue to explore the very slight possibility of acquiring Carmelo Anthony by Thursday's deadline.

The trade exception, left over from trading Anderson Varejao last season, is worth about $4.4 million. Anthony is a 12-time All-Star with a $24.6 million salary. So obviously one move would not be related to the other, and the way, way outside shot (we're talking like, say a 93-footer) of acquiring Anthony in a deadline deal with the New York Knicks would be the much bigger transaction of the two. But it's also the least likely.

Cleveland actually has two exceptions that expire Monday, the $4.4 million hole from the Varejao deal, and another worth $947,000 from trading Jared Cunningham last season. - CLICK HERE to read full story.

NEW ORLEANS -- Someone finally shined brighter at an NBA All-Star Game, but it took a record-breaking scoring night to do it.

The Pelicans' Anthony Davis set an NBA All-Star record with 52 points on his home court, and the host West squad beat the East 192-182. The two teams combined for an All-Star record 374 points.

Davis, who was 26-of-39 from the field and chipped in 10 rebounds, broke Wilt Chamberlain's 55-year-old record of 42 points, set in 1962. He was of course named the game's Most Valuable Player. - CLICK HERE to read full story.

NEW ORLEANS -- Kyrie Irving is with you. He thinks the All-Star Game has gotten too easy.

"I think going forward, the All-Star experience will probably get a little harder in terms of defense," Irving said Sunday night.

Irving was proud of his defensive effort in the 66th All-Star Game, won by the West 192-182 over the East, in which he recorded three steals to go with 22 points, 14 assists, and seven rebounds. - CLICK HERE to read full story.
