LeBron James, New-Look Cavs Offer Difficult Test for Well-Prepared David Blatt
Author: Ric Bucher
Publication: Bleacher Report
"David Blatt's first NBA assignment of any kind is to take LeBron James, the league's biggest name and most powerful player, and a handful of other stars who've never set foot in the playoffs, and meld them into an instant champion for a title-starved fanbase and an aggressive, speaks-his-mind (sometimes in Comic Sans) owner.
Exactly what are the odds that a complete NBA novice can do what Paul Silas and Mike Brown, both well-seasoned in the way the league and its superstars work, could not? What are the biggest challenges Blatt will face in replicating his success overseas? And how well-suited is he for the task?
The Cavaliers did get this part right, according to two NBA players who have played for Blatt: If you were going to pick an overseas coach to stick in this vise-grip of a situation, he's the one." - CLICK HERE to read full story.
Larry Drew expected to join Cleveland Cavaliers' coaching staff
Author: Chris Fedor
"CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Larry Drew is expected to be announced as an assistant coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the very near future, according to a league source.
Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe first reported the agreement.
Drew spent last season with the Milwaukee Bucks before being fired when new ownership surprisingly hired Jason Kidd away from the Brooklyn Nets. Drew went 15-67 in his one season in Milwaukee, stumbling to the the worst record in the NBA and the lowest win total in franchise history. He was the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks for three seasons before that, making the playoffs each year." - CLICK HERE to read full story.
Terry's Talkin' about Cleveland Browns defense dominating practice, Tribe's plans and Cavs needing Shawn Marion
Author: Terry Pluto
Publication: Plain Dealer
"I've had an informal talk with David Blatt recently, and the new Cavs coach mentioned something that is important.
When you coach an Olympic team (as he has done in Russia) or even a Euroleague team, you often have to quickly put together a team. That requires the ability to teach offenses and defenses that can be understood by players in a few months, if not sooner.
He also mentioned that when coaching in Russia or Tel Aviv, the fan base and media are not interested in being patient." - CLICK HERE to read full story.
