The Cleveland Cavaliers teamed up with 19 Action News to hold the First Annual 19 Action News Education Day at Quicken Loans Arena on Monday, October 6. The news education day was a workshop designed to give elementary students an in-depth look at the many elements that go into a news broadcast.

Participants got a behind-the-scenes look into the inner workings of a newscast. Students had the opportunity to hear about many different careers in news, and “behind the scenes” activities that went into news broadcasts from some of the 19 Action News anchors and reporters including Emmy Award-winning reporter Denise Dufala, 37-year broadcast veteran David Wittman, sports anchor Tony Zarella, Chief Meterologist Jeff Tanchak and news anchor Sharon Reed.

One lucky student was given the opportunity to interview Cleveland Cavaliers Legend Austin Carr, while several other participants filmed mock television broadcasts and weather forecasts.

Also, News Chopper 19 hovered over The Q for the event. Traffic reporter Rick Abell and pilot Bill Asad offered tours of the helicopter and explained the news technology in the chopper and the 19 Action News satellite van.
