CLEVELAND, Oct. 13 – The Cleveland Cavaliers have acquired forward/center Dwayne Jones from the Boston Celtics in exchange for guard/forward Luke Jackson and cash considerations, General Manager Danny Ferry announced today. Cleveland also receives a trade exception as part of the deal.

"We think Dwayne will be a good fit with us. He has the potential to be a quality rebounder, defender and shot blocker in the NBA. We look forward to having him with us and helping him further develop as an NBA player. Luke has worked his tail off to return from injuries and we wish him the best as he takes the next step of his career. As we looked at our current roster situation, we felt that this trade would better balance our roster and hopefully also put Luke in a better situation to succeed,” Ferry said.

Jones (6-11, 251 pounds) played in 14 games with the Celtics last season and averaged 1.0 point and 2.2 rebounds in 6.2 minutes per game. He played in 26 games for the Florida Flame of the D-League and led the league in rebounds per game (11.7) and offensive rebounds per game (4.5) and ranked second in blocks per game (2.04) to go along with 8.9 points in 31.1 minutes per game. Jones, 23, played three seasons at St. Joseph’s and was the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year and a Second Team All-Conference Selection as a junior. He led the Atlantic 10 in blocks each of his three seasons. Jones was an early entry candidate for the 2005 NBA Draft.

Jackson played in 46 career games (four starts) in two seasons with the Cavaliers. He averaged 2.7 points and 1.0 rebound in 7.8 minutes per game. Jackson was selected with the 10th overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft by the Cavaliers.
