CLEVELAND, OH - January 7th, 2008 - Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James was named today as the NBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, December 31, 2007 through Sunday, January 6, 2008.

In three games during the week, James led the Cavaliers to a perfect 3-0 record by averaging 33.0 points on .493 shooting, 8.0 rebounds and 8.0 assists per game. James has now won the award 12 times in his career: twice this season, twice in 2006-07, five times in 2005-06 and on three occasions during the 2004-05 campaign.

James set a franchise record for points in a quarter with his 24-point performance in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game at Toronto. In the final period he went 8-10 from the field including 4-5 from three-point range and finished with 39 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. In the fourth quarter of Cleveland’s win over Atlanta on Jan. 2, James posted 19 points on 6-10 shooting on his way to 36 points, five rebounds and six assists. During the fourth quarter of games this week, he averaged 15.0 points on .538 shooting, 2.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists. Against Sacramento on Jan. 4, James posted 24 points, eight rebounds, 10 assists and five steals. He became the first NBA player to post at least those numbers in a game since James did it exactly two years ago (Jan. 4, 2006).

The Denver Nuggets’ Allen Iverson was named the Western Conference Player of the Week. Other nominees for Eastern Conference Player of the Week were Boston’s Paul Pierce, Chicago’s Ben Gordon, Detroit’s Richard Hamilton, New Jersey’s Jason Kidd and Washington’s Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison.
