Cavs vs. New Orleans, Wednesday, March 26th Purchase Tickets

Joe Tait, radio play-by-play announcer and the “Voice of the Cavs” for 36 seasons, will call his 3,000th game on Wednesday, March 26th when the Cavaliers take on the New Orleans Hornets at 7:00 p.m. The Cavaliers organization and fans will salute the legendary sportscaster throughout the night.

As he has for the past 2,999 games, Tait will lead in with his signature “It’s basketball time at The Q,” (and in previous years ‘the Arena’, ‘the Coliseum’ and then ‘the Gund’). The broadcast can be heard on the Cavs flagship station News Radio WTAM 1100 and the Cavs Radio Network, which covers most of the state of Ohio and parts of Pennsylvania.

“Joe is an incomparable one-man show. Generations of fans have experienced Cavs basketball as Joe narrates every nuance of action from left to right on their radio dials,” said Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena President Len Komoroski. “There is no one that delivers the game call, and color commentary too, like our own Joe Tait and we congratulate him on this milestone broadcast.”

Every fan attending the game will receive a “Way to Go Joe” cheer card courtesy of Time Warner Cable, and Tait will be honored in a halftime tribute that will include several special guests. For that night’s game, he will call the game courtside. As part of the halftime ceremony, his permanent broadcast location in section C126 will officially be dedicated as the “Joe Tait Perch.”

Tait was the franchise’s original play-by-play man in 1970, and except for a brief hiatus from 1981 to 1983, he has been ever since. Throughout his broadcasting career, he has been honored with a number of awards, including being named Ohio Sportscaster of the Year in 1974, 1976, 1978, 1991, 1996, 1999, 2002 and 2004. He is a member of the Media Hall of Fame (Ohio), Broadcasters Hall of Fame, Cleveland Sports Legends Hall of Fame, Lorain Sports Hall of Fame and the Cleveland Press Club Hall of Fame.

This past January, Tait was honored with the 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission for his career dedication and achievements to advance sports in Cleveland.
