35th Anniversary Celebration - Cavaliers Tip Off First of Six Hardwood Classics Games with “Record Breakers Night” on January 8th

To begin with, “Record Breakers Night,” in what is the first of six Cavaliers Hardwood Classics games, will actually be played at 1:30 in the afternoon this Saturday, January 8th at Gund Arena. To showcase the spirit of the 35th Anniversary Celebration event, fans are being asked to wear gold to complement the Cavaliers players on the court who will be wearing gold throwback uniforms similar to those worn by the 1975-76 “Miracle” team. The Knicks will also be wearing throwback uniforms for the nationally televised game on ABC.
“Record Breakers Night” will commemorate the three 50+ win seasons and five playoff appearances in seven years that took place between 1986 and 1993. The Lenny Wilkens-led Cavaliers exemplified excellence, professionalism and class, both on the court and off. In the process, these teams and players rewrote a vast majority of the Cavaliers record book.
“Record Breakers Night” will honor the record holders from this great era of Cavaliers basketball. Along with Knicks Head Coach Lenny Wilkens, former Cavaliers players Tree Rollins (1988-1990), Winston Bennett (1989-1992), Terrell Brandon (1991-1997) and Larry Nance (1998-1994) will be in attendance and recognized in a special on-court presentation prior to tip off on Saturday.
Saturday, Jan. 8, Cavaliers vs. New York - Record Breakers
With three 50+ win seasons and five playoff appearances in seven years, the Lenny Wilkens-led Cavaliers exemplified excellence, professionalism and class, both on the court and off. In the process, these teams and players rewrote a vast majority of the Cavaliers record book. Record Breakers Night honors Cavaliers record holders from 1986 to 1993. Also that night, Lenny Wilkens will be in the house as he coaches the visiting New York Knicks.
Wednesday, Jan. 26, Cavaliers vs. Memphis - Birth of a Franchise
The Cavaliers 35th Anniversary celebration continues with the year that started it all, the inaugural 1970-71 season. In 1970, Cleveland was the 12th largest city in the nation and Carl B. Stokes served as the first African American mayor of a major city. Home to the new Cavaliers and the American Hockey League’s Cleveland Barons, the 10,000 seat Cleveland Arena, located at 3700 Euclid Ave., was considered the “sports palace” of its time. This Hardwood Classics evening will focus on the birth of the NBA Cleveland Cavaliers as an expansion team, and many members of the first Cavaliers team will be introduced. Purchase Tickets
Tuesday, Feb. 8, Cavaliers vs. Toronto - Cavaliers All Star Moments
This evening will recognize Cavalier All Stars over the years and remember the two All Star Weekends hosted in Cleveland. The first was at the Richfield Coliseum in 1981 and at Gund Arena in 1997, which included the historical NBA 50th Anniversary Celebration. Tuesday, March 8, Cavaliers vs. Orlando - Miracle Night
The 1975-76 season is one of notable importance to Cavaliers fans. Heralded in team history as the year of the “Miracle of Richfield,” the season is still viewed as one of the Cavaliers’ most exciting teams ever. The Cavaliers will raise the 1975-76 Central Division Champion banner to the rafters as part of this special commemorative night honoring Northeast Ohio’s love affair with the “Miracle” Cavaliers. Tuesday, April 5, Cavaliers vs. New Jersey - 1985 Playoff Team
The 1980’s got off to a rough start for the franchise, but life for the Cavaliers took a change for the better when the Gund brothers purchased the team in 1983. The turnaround became apparent with the 1984-85 team and their run to the NBA Playoffs. Thursday, April 14, Cavaliers vs. New York - Top 10 Moments Night
The final Hardwood Classics night will give Cavaliers fans an opportunity to have an influential role in the 35th Anniversary Celebration.
