Get Up, Get Fit and Live Healthy!
CLEVELAND, OH - February 2, 2012 - As part of the third annual NBA FIT Live Healthy Week (January 25th – February 2nd), the Cleveland Cavaliers schooled fans across Northeast Ohio on healthy living with the Cavs’ “Fit As A Pro” program presented by Medical Mutual and Giant Eagle. The Cavs participated in three interactive events to encourage kids, adults and families to be physically active and live healthy lifestyles.

To kick off the week, the Cavs held “Fit As A Pro Night” at Quicken Loans Arena as they matched up against the New Jersey Nets. Before the game, Cavs in-arena announcer Olivier and members of the hip-hop dance troupe, the Scream Team, hosted a fitness challenge for all children who attended Friday’s game. The course featured six stations including the crossover challenge, ladders, pushups, jumping jacks, side-to-sides and a quick relay drill. To reward participants for completing the course, each received their choice of a “Fit As A Pro” water bottle or stretch band.
Off the court, fitness and health-related vendors engaged fans with a variety of informative and interactive stations. The Cleveland Clinic came to play with an X-Box Kinect set up to battle Cavs fans in an exercise challenge. Medical Mutual and MOVband offered healthy tips and information about their services and products.

To continue the week of fitness and health, Cavs players Alonzo Gee and Kyrie Irving, along with assistant strength coach Derek Millender held a “Fit As A Pro” clinic for 25 students from Center Elementary in Mayfield Heights. The energetic youngsters hustled their way through the endurance and performance drills led by Coach Millender with instructors Gee and Irving to assist.
After the sprinting, jumping and dribbling stopped, Irving, Gee and Millender took the boys and girls on a personal tour of the Cavs weight room. Split into groups, the students had the opportunity to test out their strength on the Cavs’ arsenal of equipment. The interactive training session provided a fun lesson on proper training form and technique. At the end of the tour, the players surprised each student with a Cavs fan pack, four (4) tickets to an upcoming Cavs game and a personal autograph session with Irving and Gee.
