Dream Playground Built in One Day!
Designed by Kids, Built by Volunteers: NBA Cares, Cleveland Cavaliers, Quicken Loans and KaBoom! Teamed up to Create a New Playground for the children of Maple Heights.
This past summer the students at the Preparing Academic Leaders Academy were asked to draw a picture of their dream playground. On a beautiful fall day, Saturday, September 29th more than 250 volunteers came together to bring the dream playground to life. Thanks to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Quicken Loans, NBA Cares, along with KaBOOM! and residents from the Maple Heights community, these students now have a safe place to play.
For a school that has never had a playground, only an empty concrete parking lot to play on, this brand new recreational area will provide more than 400 children in the Maple Heights community with a safe and fun place to play. Many community members and students showed up bright and early, ready to get dirty and have some fun as they watched the new dream playground evolve before their eyes.
To top off a great day Cavs forward, Donyell Marshall and Cavaliers General Manager Danny Ferry stopped by and helped with some of the finishing touches while meeting with the kids and signing autographs. Thanks to the help of many hardworking volunteers the building process for the playground only took one day, but providing the students with a safe place to play will last them many years.
