Brown led the Cavaliers to an Eastern Conference-best 9-3 (.750) record during the month, which marked the Cavaliers best February since the 1995-96 season when the team went 10-2. The team’s 46-12 record overall is their best start in franchise history. While going 4-1 at The Q (an NBA-best 26-1 for the season) this month, Cleveland also went 5-2 on the road (20-11 on the road during the season, an Eastern Conference best).
During February, Cleveland led the Eastern Conference in point differential (7.7) and held their opponents to conference lows in points (89.1) and opponent field goal percentage (.435) while ranking second in opponent three-point percentage (.318) and third in opponent rebounding (38.9). At home, they held opponents to an Eastern Conference-best 86.6 points on only .433 shooting while averaging 98.8 points. The Cavaliers opened the month by winning their first three games from Feb. 1-Feb. 4 and ran off five straight victories from Feb. 11-Feb. 24.
This marks the third time (Jan. 2008, Dec. 2008) Brown has received the award. February 22nd marked Brown’s 300th game as head coach of the Cavaliers and with a 188-112 (.627) record in that span, he ranks fifth among active coaches in wins in their first 300 games (220 – Phil Jackson, 206 – Rick Adelman, 190 – Stan Van Gundy, and 189 – Rick Carlisle).
Utah's Jerry Sloan was named the Western Conference Coach of the Month. Other nominees for Eastern Conference Coach of the Month were Boston’s Doc Rivers and Orlando’s Stan Van Gundy.
