So You Think Your Kid Can Dance?

CLEVELAND, OH - September 17, 2010 - The Cavaliers are looking for boys and girls who can shimmy and shake and want to show off their dance moves in front of thousands of Cavs fans during the 2010-11 NBA season. The team is holding a workshop-audition for the Cavs Kids as well as the cutest thing to ever hit The Q, the new CAV-A-LITTLES, on Sunday, September 26th at Quicken Loans Arena.

The youthful squads, made up of talented dancers and performers ages 5-13, has quickly become a crowd favorite. Last year, the Cavs Kids and CAV-A-LITTLES performed in eight regular season games and due to popular demand, were called on to perform in a playoff game! This season, they will perform throughout the Cleveland Cavaliers regular season during designated “Kid’s Nights.”

Registration will begin at 12:00 p.m., and the fun filled workshop-audition will run from approximately 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. The day will begin with a performance from the Cavalier Girls and the Cavs hip-hop dance troupe, the Scream Team, followed by a group warm up. The children will participate in two learning sessions that incorporate diverse dance styles. Immediately afterward, participants will put on a performance for their parents/legal guardians to show off the skills they just learned.

There will also be an opportunity to showcase their freestyle dancing, and the coaches will have a question and answer session for the children and parents. Coaches are looking for energy, showmanship, personality, crowd appeal, ability to execute choreographed dance routines, and individual talent.

Requirements for the workshop-audition include a $15 registration fee and a non-returnable photograph. A parent or legal guardian must be present to register their child. Children should look performance ready wearing comfortable athletic clothes with sneakers. They are strongly encouraged to bring water and a small snack for breaks throughout the day. All participants will have the exclusive opportunity to purchase discounted tickets to a select regular season game.

The Cavs Kids and CAV-A-LITTLES dance troupes teach children the responsibility of being part of a team, as well as provide a channel for them to display their talent and creativity. As a member of one of these two teams, children will not only learn choreographed dances, but also train to explore their performance skills and gain a strong sense of self-worth while learning the importance of teamwork. Most of all, the kids will be encouraged to have fun doing what they love—dancing!
