CLEVELAND, Mar. 2nd - Cleveland sports fans received some great news – Frenchy, a nationally celebrated performance artist, will be at two upcoming Cavaliers games at Quicken Loans Arena to paint the players. His appearances, in partnership with the Human Fund, will be on Sunday, March 5th vs. the Chicago Bulls at 7:30 p.m. and on Tuesday, March 7th vs. the Toronto Raptors at 7:00 p.m.
The Human Fund, a foundation established to support arts education programs for under-served children in the city of Cleveland, is bringing Frenchy to town as part of the foundation’s community outreach. Frenchy will also be visiting and teaching at two schools in the Cleveland Municipal School District during his stay.
The paintings that Frenchy creates at the games will be sold with proceeds will benefiting Cavaliers Charities, a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation. Cavaliers Charities has granted over $17 million to worthy charitable causes since its launch 12 years ago, with northeast Ohio organizations at the forefront of that giving. "Pairing the in-game athletic artistry of the Cavaliers with the painting translation of Frenchy should make for a most special outcome. This is a very special project for us and The Human Fund is a very worthy cause. We're both excited and honored to have this partnership with The Human Fund and have Frenchy with us at The Q", said Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena President Len Komoroski.
It's been said that there is nothing new under the sun. But since 1997, the artist Frenchy has been creating energetic canvases in a passionate style that he single-handedly invented. He calls it performance painting.
The concept is simple enough to understand, but the execution and end result
are pure magic. Using vibrant acrylics he captures popular musical acts and sports figures as they perform. He channels the energy emanating from the stage or the playing field by creating colorful, one-of-a-kind works of art that grace the walls of his many musical friends, restaurants, galleries and a diverse list of art-loving celebrities.
Frenchy was most recently profiled on ESPN in November during a New Orleans’s Saints NFL football game.
Frenchy, who was in Cleveland recently in October for The Human Fund's fundraising pARTy, has become an adopted Clevelander. “I love this city and am thrilled to be painting the amazing Cavs. The same vortex of energy that exists when a band is playing in front of an audience exists when athletes hit the court", said Frenchy. "Anyone who has ever witnessed an incredible concert or game, is aware of that special energy. I just try and tap into it."
