Cavs Plan to ’Light It Up’ for National TV Audience On Opening Night
Cleveland, Oct. 25 - After he was drafted, LeBron James talked about lighting up Cleveland ‘like Vegas.’ Four years later, the Cavaliers are bringing a new brilliance to Cleveland. The city is bustling and fans are charged with high expectations as the Cavs get set to officially tip off the 2006-07 season on Wednesday, November 1st at 8:00 p.m. at Quicken Loans Arena.
Inside The Q it will be electric, outside it will be illuminated as the city of Cleveland “Lights It Up” for the Cavaliers. The theme for the home opener is “Light It Up” presented by GE. The Cavaliers are asking all businesses in downtown Cleveland to keep their office and building lights on from 6:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. for the game against the Washington Wizards that will be televised nationally on ESPN, and locally on FSN Ohio and WUAB-43.
“We’re asking downtown Cleveland to participate by leaving office and building lights on to show the country that Cleveland is lighting it up for the Cavaliers, and the Cavaliers are going to light it up for Cleveland,” said Chad Estis, Cavaliers executive vice president and chief marketing officer. “It is a great opportunity to showcase Cleveland to a national and international television audience.”
"This is chance for us to come together, a chance to show our true spirit, and a chance to highlight a vibrant downtown that is part of what makes Cleveland a great place to be," said Mayor Frank G. Jackson.
With the city shining brightly in the background, the FSN Ohio Fan Fest hosted by GE will be taking place on Gateway Plaza from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Fans can enjoy interactive games, shoot hoops, stop by the Cavaliers Legends autograph table, listen to live music by the band Sunset Strip, and watch special performances by the Cavalier Girls, the Scream Team and Q-Stix.
Inside The Q, fans will Light It Up with a Light-Up Pom presented by GE and a Light-Up Lanyard presented by Quicken Loans. Every fan attending the game will also receive a 2006-07 Cavaliers Schedule Magnet presented by Ticketmaster.
“GE Consumer & Industrial is proud to have its lighting business located in Northeast Ohio. On behalf of all GE employees in the community, we want to wish the Cavaliers a successful season as we “Light It Up” for Cleveland,” said Michael Petras, GE vice president of electrical distribution and lighting.
At 8:00 p.m. the Cavaliers will flip the switch to officially tip off the 2006-07 season and light up Cleveland… just like Las Vegas.
