Cleveland Cavaliers and “THE WORD” Church Wraps Up Black Heritage Celebration on a High Note with Chart-Topping Gospel Recording Artist Dr. Marvin Sapp

CLEVELAND, OH - February 21, 2011 - As part of the 7th Annual Black Heritage Celebration (BHC) presented by State Farm, the Cleveland Cavaliers, in partnership with “THE WORD” Church, are proud to present a FREE, LIVE concert featuring chart-topping gospel recording artist Dr. Marvin Sapp on Saturday, February 26th at 8:00 p.m. “THE WORD” Church will host this moving and spirit-filled event as part of its “Saturday Night Live” service (located at 18909 South Miles Road, Warrensville Heights, Ohio 44128.)

Dr. Marvin Sapp is an award winning, chart-topping, gospel artist. His mega-selling “Never Would Have Made It” held down the #1 slot at gospel radio for almost a full year; topped the Urban AC chart; was a top selling ringtone, and propelled his 2007 release, Thirsty, to the top of the gospel charts for 27 weeks. Dr. Sapp is the senior pastor of The Lighthouse Full Life Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and recently released his eighth studio album, “Best in Me”.

“Working together with the Cavs for the third year to host a free gospel concert, this time with the talented Dr. Marvin Sapp, has been an extraordinary opportunity to bring together not only our church, but others in Cleveland’s faith-based community” said founder and Senior Pastor R. A. Vernon.” It is my prayer that the harmonious rapport that we’ve built through this partnership will be a platform for more opportunities to aid the city in the future.”

The day before the concert, at the Cavs vs. Knicks game on Friday, February 25th, “THE WORD” Church’s own Gospel Choir will deliver a special half-time performance for Cavaliers fans as part of Gospel Night, presented by PNC Bank. This will be “THE WORD” Church Praise Team’s second appearance at The Q this year after performing a soulful gospel rendition of the national anthem during the BHC’s “tip-off” event, MLK Tribute Night on January 19th.

“We are truly thankful for the support and leadership from the ‘THE WORD’ Church to bring one of gospel music’s biggest names, Dr. Marvin Sapp, to Cleveland,” said Cavaliers Legend Campy Russell, BHC committee member and director of alumni relations. “THE WORD has been a great supporter of the team’s Gospel Nights and having this concert at their church is a way the team can continue to show its passion for getting out into the community.”
