Cleveland Cavaliers Set to Begin 2011 Black Heritage Celebration with Martin Luther King Jr. Tribute Night

MLK Tribute NightCLEVELAND, OH - January 11, 2011 - The Cleveland Cavaliers will tip off their seventh annual Black Heritage Celebration (BHC), presented by State Farm, on Wednesday, January 19th as the Cavaliers take on the Phoenix Suns at Quicken Loans Arena at 7:00 p.m. The BHC will include four signature Cavaliers home games and a free gospel concert by nationally renowned gospel recording artist, Dr. Marvin Sapp, at “The WORD” Church, all presented by PNC, throughout January and February. The first of the four signature games, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Tribute Night, presented by PNC, honors the legacy of the prominent civil rights activist.

In recognition of his contributions, there will be a special video production of Dr. King’s famous “I have a Dream” speech from this season’s Cavaliers players and a live gospel performance by The Pastor’s Choir of 4REAL Empowerment Center, regional winners of the Best Small Choir Award at the 2010 “How Sweet the Sound” choir competition at halftime of the Cavaliers game versus Phoenix.

The 2011 BHC will continue with Black Pioneers’ Night on Wednesday, February 2nd with a matchup against Central Division rival Indiana at 7:00 p.m., then move on to Black Achievement Night and a Friday night contest against the Los Angeles Clippers on February 11th at 7:30 p.m. before concluding its signature-games series with Gospel Night on Friday, Feb. 25th at 7:30 p.m. versus the New York Knicks.

The following night, as part of “The WORD” Church’s “Saturday Night Live” service, Dr. Marvin Sapp will be performing a free gospel concert for those in attendance.
