The results of a season-long poll were revealed during halftime of the Cavaliers vs. New York Knicks game on April 14th. If you take a drive down I-77 South – maybe 20 minutes from The Q – to the sleepy southern suburb of Richfield, there is hardly a remnant of the venue that once hosted one of the greatest events in Cleveland sports history. The place where Sinatra once sang, where Deadheads danced and Michael Jordan silenced 20,000 voices is now no more than an empty field.

The All-Star Game is a time for showmanship and style, where the game’s best come together for 48 minutes—and more. Through the years, the Game’s evolved into something of a corporate beast, tailored with the trimmings to thrill the fans. But it wasn’t always this way.

For years, the dark cloud of expansion basketball hung over the Cavaliers and the city of Cleveland after the team began play in 1970. There were low expectations, lots of losing, and a constant struggle to develop some sort of chemistry with a hodgepodge of players thrown together only months before the opening tip.
