(On J.R. Smith’s defense tonight with four blocks and three steals): “When J.R. came last year, he played such great basketball for us from the moment he came in. One of the things that really stood out to me was his two-way play. The guys that are here all the time probably heard me say tens of times that he’s playing good two-way basketball. He’s making the effort at both ends of the court. He’s taking on challenges and really has given us good play. I’m not surprised. I know he’s capable of it. I know he’s willing to give us that and we needed that. Obviously, being without a great defender like Shump (Iman Shumpert), we need J.R. to take on even more of a role in that respect and he has risen to the challenge and he doesn’t shy away from the responsibility.”

(On whether the last play of the game was designed): “It was a designed play. Coach called up the play, we executed it to perfection and that was the end result. Obviously I wanted the ball in my hands down the stretch. I feel like I can make something happen for not only myself, but for my team. I am happy that I was able to come through for us.”

(On balancing working in the paint and on the perimeter): “I was tired. The first five minutes of the game I kind of needed to catch my second wind. In the third quarter a lot of my shots were there. I’m looking forward to getting tomorrow off and then getting my legs back underneath me for Tuesday. I looked after the game and saw that 11 of my 14 shots were from three, so I would much rather have more of my shots be in the paint, but tonight it just didn’t work out that way.”

(On playing through fatigue): “Well we were on the road through Thanksgiving and it was an awkward time to come home to a team that had a day’s rest and grind out a win. Sometimes that is what it is all about. I felt really good today. At the end of the day, it is all about just grinding out the win.”
