From The Q to the Kitchen: Cavaliers Team Up to Eat Healthy!
Cavs players Ramon Sessions and Antawn Jamison, Sweet Melissa Owner/Chef Matthew Ullom educate young adults from AGAPE
CLEVELAND, OH - January 28, 2011 - As a part of the NBA FIT initiative, Cavaliers players Ramon Sessions and Antawn Jamison threw on their aprons and played the role of sous-chefs as Sweet Melissa Owner/Chef Matthew Ullom hosted a cooking class for 25 young adults from the Cleveland Christian Home’s AGAPE program on the importance of healthy eating for growing children, how to look for the best ingredients when shopping and other helpful hints.
Through an interactive demonstration, both Ramon and Antawn assisted Chef Matthew in preparing a four-course meal, including creamy tomato bisque, Mediterranean pasta, chopped salad and vegan desserts! Chef Matthew led the group in step-by-step instructions and explained the importance in choosing fresh, healthy ingredients for meals and how it’s much easier than it seems to prepare quick meals that are healthy and delicious for all ages!
The group also had the opportunity to talk with the players about the role good nutrition has played in keeping them physically fit and mentally sharp, with both Ramon and Antawn giving a play-by-play of what they eat before games.
“Taking care of our bodies and eating a balanced diet is something that is vital to us as athletes,” said Sessions. “Through the NBA FIT program and restaurants like Sweet Melissa, we get the chance to talk to families about the importance of staying active and making healthy choices.”
