In just his first season as a Cleveland Cavalier, it didn’t take long for the northeast Ohio community to learn that
Eric Snow has a passion to give back. Now, the rest of the country is aware of Snow’s commitment to goodwill. During All-Star Weekend in Denver last week, Snow was one of three NBA players honored with the NBA Community Contribution Award in recognition of his commitment to the community.
The award, given out annually by the National Basketball Players Association, was presented to Snow, Kevin Garnett of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Marcus Camby of the Denver Nuggets at the NBA Players Gala on Saturday, February 19th.
Snow, a native of Canton, Ohio, has worn his love for his community on his sleeve since he returned to northeast Ohio to join the Cavaliers this past summer. He has initiated several community outreach programs including his FullCourt Fatherhood Challenge, the Season of Giving Toy Drive and with teammate Drew Gooden, conducted a coat drive in January. Through Snow’s Shoot 4 the Moon Foundation, programs are created to raise money and awareness about the importance of fatherhood, families and children.
In addition to his NBA Community Contribution Award, Snow was also selected by The Sporting News as one of its “Good Guys” in the NBA for three straight seasons (2002-2004), and was one of five finalists for the 2003-2004 J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award, the oldest citizenship and community service award in the NBA that honors an NBA player or coach for outstanding service and dedication to the community.
