Investing in Future Manufacturing Professionals Majestic Steel Teams Up with Cavaliers to Award Four Scholarships
CLEVELAND, OH - April 11, 2012 - For the fifth consecutive year, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Majestic Steel USA, in partnership with Cuyahoga Community College and Lakeland Community College, have teamed up to award four students $2,000 scholarships for the 2012-13 school year. With this year’s winners, the scholarships awarded total $48,000 over five years.
The recipients were honored at a pre-game banquet and recognized during a pregame ceremony at the Cavaliers vs. Indiana Pacers game at Quicken Loans Arena on Wednesday, April 11th. The winners were chosen by a team of Majestic Steel USA and Cavaliers employees.
"Majestic Steel USA is once again honored to partner with the Cavs in awarding scholarships to students pursuing manufacturing careers in local community colleges,” said Tom Innis, director of corporate relations for Majestic Steel. “By supporting the scholarship initiative, we're creating opportunity for students in our community and helping to strengthen manufacturing in Northeast Ohio."
All scholarship recipients intend to pursue a career in manufacturing, or are currently enrolled in manufacturing programs at the institutions listed above. In order to apply, students submitted a scholarship application, high school transcript (if applicable) and answered questions about pursuing a career in manufacturing.
“Every year what stands out to us the most is how genuine the Majestic team is in wanting this opportunity to really have an impact and be meaningful for these young people,” said Cavaliers Chief Operating Officer Kerry Bubolz. “They work closely with us and take ownership of the program by getting their employees involved in every level of the scholarship selection process. From reviewing applications, conducting student interviews and presenting the scholarships, it’s a true partnership in every sense of the word.”
The 2012 scholarship recipients are:
- Jesse Jeavons – (Mentor High School) – will be attending Lakeland Community College
- Phuong Duy Nguyen –attends Cuyahoga Community College
- Carlos Alberto Ruiz Jr. – (James Ford Rhodes High School) – will attend Cuyahoga Community College
- Braden Williams – attends Cuyahoga Community College
