Oh, The Places They’ll Go!
Cavaliers Players Anthony Parker, Leon Powe and Alonzo Gee Hosted 25 Fourth Graders for Special Read to Achieve Event
CLEVELAND, OH - February 23, 2011 - Cavs players Anthony Parker, Leon Powe and Alonzo Gee teamed-up off the court for a special “Reading Timeout” today at Cleveland Clinic Courts. The trio took 25 students from Columbus Intermediate School in Bedford Heights on a journey of peaks and valleys in the great adventure of Dr. Seuss’ “Oh, The Places You’ll Go.” They encouraged students to set goals to accomplish their dreams, while at the same time teaching the importance of facing challenges and overcoming obstacles.
When the final page was turned, the players went head-to-head with the students in multiple games of Scrabble. Cavaliers hype man Ahmaad helped the girls with their word choice, while Sir C.C. started a dance party at his table. Each student went home with an Electronic Scrabble game of their own and tickets to an upcoming Cavs game during Read to Achieve week courtesy of the Cavaliers players.
The classmates from Columbus Intermediate School were randomly selected from classrooms throughout northeast Ohio with 100% participation in the Cavs Read to Achieve challenge.
