Cleveland Cavaliers to Open Technology Lab For Students at A.J. Rickoff Elementary School
CLEVELAND, OH - April 7th, 2008 - The Cleveland Cavaliers will dedicate a new technology lab to the students at A.J. Rickoff Elementary School in Cleveland on Tuesday, April 8th at 10:00 a.m. The grand opening of the Cavaliers Technology Lab presented by the Greater Cleveland Chapter of LINKS, Inc and KeyBank is part of the team’s Reading and Learning Center program and is the third center opening this season.

The technology lab features 19 computers donated by KeyBank and 19 computer desks and chairs donated by Aaron’s Rents. The Cavaliers provided all the painting, graphics, signage, dry erase board and along with LINKS, donated a new Smart Board.

“The Cleveland Chapter of the Links, Inc. adopted Andrew. J. Rickoff two years ago in order to further enhance and support the learning experiences of the students,” said Sadie Winlock, chapter president. “Establishing a technology lab for these students seemed to be the best solution to not only assist the school’s educators, but to also assist the students with learning the future skills required to pass the Ohio Achievement Test as early as possible. In a joint effort with two great organizations in KeyBank and the Cleveland Cavaliers, we are proud to establish this technology center which will add value and make a difference in the lives of children.”

At the unveiling, Cavaliers mascot Moondog will entertain and the Scream Team will perform for the students. A dedication ceremony with a ribbon cutting will include Cleveland Cavaliers Legends Austin Carr and Campy Russell, Cavaliers CEO Mark Stornes, Cleveland Municipal School District Assistant Superintendent James Balotta, A.J. Rickoff Principal Dr. Robert Moore, Greater Cleveland Chapter of LINKS, Inc. President Sadie Winlock, Cavaliers television play-by-play announcer Fred McLeod and Beth McLeod of the Cavaliers Better Halves.

The Cavaliers Reading and Learning Center is the ninth center in Northeast Ohio to be funded and constructed by the team since the program started in 2003 under the auspices of the Cavaliers Read to Achieve program. The Cavaliers Read to Achieve program is presented by Time Warner Cable. The development of Reading and Learning Centers allows qualified non-profit organizations with the opportunity to improve the condition of its current facility as well as to improve the quality of its literacy and educational programming.
