AKRON, Ohio -- August 29, 2005 -- Score another big assist for Cleveland Cavaliers Superstar, LeBron James as he will donate 1,000 backpacks full of school supplies to area youngsters in Akron and Cleveland. Through his non-profit James Family Foundation and in partnership with Target, James will personally distribute the school supplies at two locations on Friday, September 2nd.

In Akron, 500 school aged children with special vouchers will receive their school supplies at the East Akron YMCA Phoenix School, located at 110 Goodyear Blvd. In Cleveland, 500 children will receive their supplies at Lonnie Burton Recreation Center located at 2511 E. 46th St. in Cleveland.

We have been doing events like this since I was in high school and I will always be here to support the kids, stated LeBron James.

Gloria James, founder of the James Family Foundation and mother of LeBron James added, Starting the school year with a pencil, paper and something to put it in, was one thing I made sure LeBron had every school year. Now we want to help others by providing those same things.

The James Family Foundation has recognized that there is a need to provide school supplies to families in Northeast Ohio to reduce some of the expenses incurred and start a productive school year, said Chris Dennis, Executive Director of the James Family Foundation.

The mission of the James Family Foundation is to help children and families (particularly those headed by single parents) achieve more through education, recreation, employment and better health options. Recently the Foundation raised funds for children and families at the Akron Area YMCA and Akron Urban League through the "King for Kids" Bikeathon in Akron. .

The Back to School giveaway is co-sponsored by Target with support of Stewart and Calhoun Funeral Home. Target provides local support to communities throughout the country. Every week Target gives more than $2 million to strengthen families and communities across the nation, with a focus on education, the arts, and social services.
