15 Area High School Students Credentialed for Media Access at Cavaliers vs. Detroit Game as Part of Cavaliers Full Court Press Program

CLEVELAND, OH - March 22, 2010 - The Cleveland Cavaliers Full Court Press presented by Chancellor University is one of the team’s educational initiatives designed to expose high school students to the world of journalism in professional sports. On Sunday, March 21st at the Cavaliers vs. Detroit Pistons game at Quicken Loans Arena, 15 area high school students who were selected based on their writing entries, participated in game day media opportunities that started at the team’s morning shoot around. By tipoff at 6:00 p.m., the insight to a career of being a sports journalist looked much clearer.

Their experience included attending the media availability following the morning shoot around with the opportunity to interview Cavs’ guard Danny Green. They participated in a round table discussion with members of the local media that included Plain Dealer beat writers Brian Windhorst and Mary Schmitt Boyer, Cavs.com beat writer Joe Gabriele, play-by-play broadcaster Fred McLeod and members of the Cavaliers public relations team. Prior to the game they toured the television trucks, radio studio and the video production studio. The students attended the game and left with the assignment to write about their media day experience. The winning article will be posted on cavs.com.
