Showing Kids That Being Healthy Can Also Be Fun

A typical Wednesday turned out to be anything but for the student body of James A. Garfield Elementary School in Cleveland. The 600 pre-K through eighth graders were treated to a special “gym class takeover” as part of the Cleveland Cavaliers “Fit as a Pro” program, presented by Medical Mutual and in association with Giant Eagle. The entire school is registered in the program, thanks to their Phys Ed teacher.

More news on the Cavs.

Wednesday morning the students gathered in the school gymnasium, where they were surprised by Cavs PA announcer Olivier and in-arena host Ahmaad. The two welcomed “The Q Fit Squad,” made up of members of the Cavaliers Girls, Scream Team and Q Spirit Squad, for a performance. After, the squad members spoke to the kids about how they stay fit and healthy in order to perform all season long.

Then it was time for the students to show how they can be fit like the pros. Several of the students were chosen to take part in a dance-off, with tips from the Cavs entertainment teams. As if that wasn’t fun enough, then the teachers got in on the action! Several teachers had their own dance-off, much to the amusement of all the students in attendance.

A great example that people of all ages can have fun while being fit!
