LeBron James Trades His Basketball for a Yoga Mat to Stretch Out with 26 Students From Holy Cross Elementary on Monday Afternoon
As part of the Cavaliers Fit as a Pro program, the students arrived at Cleveland Clinic Courts ready to work out and were surprised to see LeBron James enter the room, yoga mat in hand, and ready for his cool-down routine with the students after his practice.
Each student received a Cavaliers yoga mat and settled in around LeBron to participate in his routine yoga session led by Assistant Athletic Trainer Mike Mancias. Once the “downward dog” and “sun salutation” positions were mastered, LeBron discussed the importance of stretching to keep bodies healthy and participated in Q&A with the students.
Following the stretching and yoga with LeBron, the students participated in a workout and Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach Ken Sneed sent them sprinting up and down the courts. The afternoon ended pitting the boys vs. girls for relay race across the court with a layup to win.
The Cavaliers “Fit as A Pro” program, presented by Medical Mutual, is designed to encourage physical fitness and well-balanced nutrition among elementary school students in northeast Ohio. Participating classrooms track the amount of physical activity they get each day and use a nutritional poster with information such as the food pyramid and sample diets of the Cavaliers as a teaching tool.
