On Monday morning, representatives of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Lake Erie Monsters and Glidden had the honor of congratulating the students and staff of Garfield Elementary School in Medina for winning the 2013 Colorful Community Contest. The Colorful Community Contest makeover allowed Garfield Elementary School, celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, to have the hallways, entrance area and cafeteria repainted by the experts at Glidden Paint, making it fresher, brighter and more colorful for the next 100 years!

Along with Garfield Elementary School, Lorain Community School and Westside Community School were chosen by the Cavs and Monsters to vie for the opportunity to win the “Colorful Community Contest” makeover. For two weeks, fans were able to visit cavs.com or lakeeriemonsters.com to view each finalist’s submission and show support for the most deserving school by voting. With more than 30,000 votes throughout the contest, the Garfield Elementary rallied together to get 17,000 votes in support of their school.

After a brief press conference congratulating Garfield for their hard work, students were entertained by the Cavs dynamic dance troupe, the Scream Team. The morning festivities wrapped up with a “Colorful Timeout,” where students hurried back to their classrooms to create vibrant crafts alongside Cavs mascots Moondog and Sir C.C, Monsters mascot Sully, Gladiators mascot Rudi, the Scream Team and representatives from the Cavs, Monsters and Glidden.
