2012 Cavaliers Giving Thanks
Tis’ the season for giving back; which is exactly what the Cavaliers have been busy doing as the NBA launches its annual Season of Giving campaign. It was a fun-filled week of feeding both the minds and bodies of many Northeast Ohio Cavaliers fans as well as paying tribute to the brave men and women who have served and are currently serving in the United States Military. Check out all the action!
Fit As A Pro
The Cavaliers hosted their first Fit As A Pro, presented by Medical Mutual and Giant Eagle, event of the season on Thursday, November 15th at Cleveland Clinic Courts with a relay race to healthy eating. Students from Garfield Elementary School, dressed in chef’s hats and aprons, competed in teams to select the best food options to develop a healthy meal with the help of their Cavaliers teammates, Omri Casspi, Jeremy Pargo and Samardo Samuels. The first team to select the healthy meal options won! The afternoon wrapped up with a question and answer session with the players.
Hoops for Troops
The Cavaliers dedicated their Saturday, November 17th game against the Dallas Mavericks at 7:30 p.m. to those who have served, or are still serving, in all branches of the United States Armed Forces. The Cavs “Salute the Military Night presented by DAWNCHEM” paid tribute and gave thanks to our men and women of the military for their dedication and the sacrifices they have made to serve our country. The Cavs welcomed military families to the game with a special half price ticket offer, and on behalf of all fans in attendance, donated $1 from each single game ticket sold to Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP).
Prior to Saturday’s game, Cavs players made a visit to the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center on Thursday, November 15th to spend some time with patients and deliver Cavs blankets.
Tristan's Turkey Giveaway
On Monday, November 19th Cavaliers forward Tristan Thompson gave thanks by giving back at the Historic Greater Friendship Baptist Church, where he hosted a turkey giveaway for 150 families in the Cleveland community. With support from Giant Eagle, Thompson was able to donate turkeys with all the fixin’s to ensure that local familes would be well-fed this Thanksgiving.
Menorah Park Visit
On Monday, November 19th, Cavaliers forward Omri Casspi spent the afternoon warming up with a new squad – the residents at the Menorah Park Center for Senior Living. Casspi spoke with residents, signed autographs and even had inflatable basketball beach balls for fun and games!
Read to Achieve Event
The kids from Hannah Gibbons Elementary had a ball with the Cavaliers on Tuesday, November 20th taking part in a mini-media day Read to Achieve Event at Cleveland Clinic Courts. The students interviewed C.J. Miles, surveyed Donald Sloan and had a photo shoot with Daniel Gibson all to teach them the importance of reading and writing. The event simulated the annual media day the players participate in at the beginning of every season.
