Cavaliers 7th Reading and Learning Center Opens
On Friday, August 24th, just the second day of the new school year, the students and faculty of Douglas MacArthur Girls Leadership Academy were given a special gift.

Thanks to Cavaliers Head Coach Mike Brown and his wife Carolyn, the Cleveland Cavaliers and team’s corporate partners— the Academy opened its new Cavaliers Reading and Learning Center. The project was initiated and designed under the guidance of Carolyn Brown, who believes in giving every child the opportunity of a good education.

The Browns were joined by Cavs guard Shannon Brown and Cavs legend Campy Russell; along with Dr. Eugene Sanders, CEO of Cleveland Metropolitan School District and Tony Miller, the principal of Douglas MacArthur for a special ceremony that dedicated the center for “learning, reading and achieving.”

The academy for girls is one of four new choice opportunity single gender charter schools in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.

The Brown family, with the Cavaliers and their corporate partners - Wayside Furniture, Quicken Loans, and Gil Reis Designs— donated computers, paint, custom graphics, bookshelves and furniture to the new center. Schill Landscaping designed the “reading garden.”

Following the ribbon cutting, the students took time to enjoy their new Reading and Learning Center with all of their special guests. What a great way to start the new school year in a new school!
