Cavaliers Recognize Academic All-Stars

Watterson Lake School Teacher and Clark Elementary Student
Receive Special Recognition for Outstanding Contribution to Education

Each month, the Cleveland Cavaliers award one teacher and one student for their outstanding achievements through the team's Head of the Class and All-Star Kids programs. The Cavs recognize these winners with a surprise visit to their schools and present them with their award on the court before a Cavaliers game at Quicken Loans Arena.

The Head of the Class program, presented by KIA, recognizes teachers in Northeast Ohio for making a difference in their students’ lives both inside and outside the classroom. Teachers are nominated by their principals or peers, and the winners are chosen based on their outstanding contributions to education.

During the month of February the Cleveland Cavaliers recognized Nancy Cosner, a 6th-8th grade special education teacher with Watterson Lake Elementary, as the Head of the Class winner. Cavaliers mascot Moondog and Cavs in-arena host Ahmaad made a surprise visit to Cosner’s school to present her with a $500.00 donation to use toward her classroom and a super-sized ticket to a Cavaliers home game. In addition, Cosner received two tickets to a Cavs game and dinner for two at The Q’s Court Club. She then stood center court to be honored for his achievement prior to the Cavs vs. Minnesota game on Tuesday, February 11th.

The All-Star Kids program, presented by Cuyahoga Community College, recognizes middle school students in Northeast Ohio who are setting a positive example for their peers through solid academic achievement or significant improvement in the classroom, positive attitude, good citizenship and community involvement.

Brandon Yontosh, a student from Clark was selected as the All-Star Kids winner for February. He was surprised at his school by Cavs in-arena host Ahmaad and mascot Moondog with the announcement in front of his class. In addition to receiving four (4) tickets to a Cavs game, Yontosh also received dinner for four at The Q’s Court Club and was recognized on-court prior to the Cavs vs. Denver game on Friday, February 9th.
