Mike Snyder returned to the Cavaliers as the Studio Host for the 2005-06 season, his 14th straight year in the position. Snyder begins each Cavaliers radio network broadcast with the 30-minute "Jim Giltner Financial Group Tip-Off Show," a comprehensive look at what's happening around the NBA, featuring interviews, game reports, injury updates and a preview of the Cavaliers game with Head Coach Mike Brown and Joe Tait.
Steve (Warren): Larry Hughes had his check-up Wednesday. What's the latest?
Mike Snyder: I have not heard anything yet and was hoping to talk to Mike Brown today about it. I will hopefully have an update for the Mike Brown Radio Show tonight at 7:00 p.m.
Jack (Perry, OH): Do you think the current playoff seeds will stay the same or will there be movement before the season ends?
Mike Snyder: I think that the Cavaliers will be either a 4, 5, or 6 seed. I pretty much think that Washington or Indiana will be the other two. I think the Cavaliers have an excellent chance at being the 4 seed because their schedule is rather favorable for the rest of the way. I also know Indiana has a rather favorable schedule for them and Washington still has a west coast trip. I really think the Cavs have a great chance to be #4 or #5.
Bill (Sandusky, OH): What is your favorite Joe Tait saying?
Mike Snyder: My favorite is "A whistle and what????"
Mike(Cleveland): Playing the style the Cavaliers do, how far will it take them during the playoffs? Will they acquire any big name players for next season?
Mike Snyder: In my opinion the Cavaliers still need to upgrade their defense considerably. I believe Mike Brown is trying to instill that because he knows for them to go far they have to play good defense. As far as the off-season, I think the Cavaliers will be looking at any opportunity and it will probably be dictated on how they finish this season. They will have to consider re-signing Drew Gooden and might consider looking at what point guards are out there.
Gary (Fairport Harbor, OH): Who do you like in the NCAA tournament?
Mike Snyder: My final four is UConn, Villanova, Memphis and Texas. I pick UConn to win it all. I'm really going out on a limb!
Trent (Marietta, OH): Which team do you see coming out of the East this year?
Mike Snyder: I like Miami. I'm not sure why I pick them over Detroit. But if Alonzo Mourning can keep playing like the old Alonzo, I think Miami has a shot at going to the Finals.
Pam (Dover, OH): Do you think LeBron James will sign his extension this summer?
Mike Snyder: All indications point to him doing that. He has said on several occasions that he wants to do it as soon as he can and I think he will.
Rick ( Norwalk): After watching Big Z lead the team in points in the first half (many times), the Cavs come out in the third and forget who has kept them in the game. It seems they don't start the second half posting up the big man like they do at the beginning of games. Z has scored 20+ points in the first half and then less than ten in the second half. Couldn't this be part of the problem not keeping a lead or just getting blown out? Lebron's going to get his every game but inconsistency by the rest is a problem! Don't you think posting up Z more often later in games, could help the whole team? The big man needs more of a role later in the games, so the cavs don't take so many ill-advised shots (that are well defended).
Mike Snyder: Rick, I agree with you. I think they do tend to drift away from Z. I also believe that opponents do give Z a little more attention after he has a good start. I think they tend to get away from going to him and they should remember they have him there.
Quentin (Cleveland): What's the magic number now for the Cavs to clinch the fourth seed as the season winds down?
Mike Snyder: I would guess that 46 wins would clinch the 4th seed. The magic number right now is a combination of 15 wins or Pacer losses. We do have the tiebreaker with the Pacers.
Joe in Highland Hills: What do you see Flip Murray's role as once Larry Hughes returns?
Mike Snyder: I see him coming in off the bench. I also can visualize Flip, Larry and LeBron on the floor together. I think that Flip will still continue to get good minutes whether replacing Larry or on the floor with Larry.
Greg in Old Brooklyn: Do you see Luke Jackson being with this team next year?
Mike Snyder: I think it is probably about 50-50. I think the Cavaliers would still like to see him play, but he needs minutes and whether the Cavaliers have the time to give him those minutes, thus he could be valuable as trade bait.
Lakewood: Why has Mike Brown not made more use of Sasha?
Mike Snyder: While Sasha has definitely shown he can shoot it, the coach believes he has liabilities at the defensive end of the floor and with his ball handling.
I'd like to thank everybody. Hang in there and I think we will have a bit of fun with this team this spring.
