Andrew S. Lustgarten joined the NBA in July, 2007, and focuses on business matters of the NBA in his capacity as Special Assistant to the Commissioner, reporting directly to Commissioner David Stern.
Prior to working for the NBA, Lustgarten helped formulate the Alternative Investment Strategies Group at Deutsche Bank. Lustgarten was also employed by Apollo Management L.P. as a summer associate concentrating on private equity leveraged buyout transactions, where he was part of a team that executed the €1.48 billion acquisition of TNT Logistics.
From 2002-05, Lustgarten worked for Cablevision Systems Corporation as Vice-President, Finance. While at Cablevision, he worked on a series of strategic transactions for the company, including the $750 million sale of Northcoast Communication’s wireless licenses to Verizon Wireless, Quadrangle Group’s $75 million investment in Cablevision, and the swap of News Corporation’s ownership of Madison Square Garden for Cablevision’s ownership in Fox Sports Ohio and Fox Sports Bay Area.
Lustgarten began his career in 1999 at Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc., working in the Media & Entertainment Investment Banking Department where he specialized in Mergers and Acquisition transactions.
Additionally, Lustgarten serves on the Board of Directors of the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, the largest privately funded research group focused on pancreatic cancer.
A native New Yorker, Lustgarten received his MBA with Honors from Columbia Business School, with concentrations in finance and management, and his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania.
