Bill Koenig is NBAE Executive Vice President, Business Affairs and General Counsel. Bill has been involved in the negotiation and drafting of many of the NBA’s major domestic and international business agreements. Bill is also involved extensively in representing the NBA and NBA Properties (NBAP) in various litigations pending around the world, and provides legal and business counsel to NBAP’s divisions and subsidiaries.
Koenig joined the NBA in 1990 as Staff Attorney and served as the league’s Assistant General Counsel before being named General Counsel in 1994. He assumed his current responsibilities with NBAP in 1999.
Prior to joining the NBA in 1990, Koenig was associated with the law firm of Proskauer Goetz and Mendelsohn, where he was a general civil litigator with experience in matters relating to professional sports.
Bill received a bachelor’s degree in economics with honors from Harvard University in 1983 and a master’s degree in economics and industrial relations from the London School of Economics in 1984. He received his J.D. in 1987 from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law, where he served as an editor of the Law Review. He resides in Scarsdale, N.Y., with his wife, Melinda Witmer, and children, Stephen and Samantha.
