NBA Asia
Mark Fischer was named Senior Vice President and Managing Director of NBA Asia in August 2008, and is currently responsible for the development of the National Basketball Association’s businesses and operations in the Asia-Pacific Region, with the exception of China.
From 2002 to October 2007, Fischer led the NBA’s explosive growth in China, overseeing the expansion of the NBA’s branding and basketball development initiatives and directing integrated business segments including marketing partnerships and events, television and digital media, and licensed merchandise. During this period, Mr. Fischer built NBA China’s on-ground operations in Beijing and Shanghai, cultivated more than 20 marketing partnerships with leading multinational and domestic brands, spearheaded a range of on-ground events and other integrated marketing initiatives, and initiated the NBA’s groundbreaking partnership model with the Beijing Olympic Basketball Arena.
Fischer joined the NBA and formally established NBA Taiwan, Ltd. in 1997. He began exploring the league’s marketing and licensing opportunities in mainland China in 1998 from his base in Taipei. In November 1999, Mr. Fischer was promoted to Senior Director of Marketing Partnerships and Events for NBA Asia, Ltd., a regional position headquartered in Hong Kong.
Before joining the NBA, Fischer was Vice President of Richina Media Holdings Ltd. in Beijing, where he established an advertising and sports marketing agency and managed several China-based publishing and media ventures, including the Chinese editions of Popular Science magazine and a guide to the 1996-97 NBA season.
From 1988 to 1993, Fischer worked for Capetronic Corporation, a multinational electronics manufacturer, initially as Business Manager of its Kaohsiung, Taiwan factory, and subsequently in Taipei, as Director of Far East Sales and Marketing.
Fischer played semipro basketball for Taiwan’s top league while working in Taipei as a trade journalist and import/export trader from 1985 to 1988.
