As NBA Senior Vice President, Marketing Communications, Michael Bass oversees all public relations and media activities for the business units of the NBA, Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) and NBA Development League (D-League), including television, film, Internet, marketing, merchandising, marketing partnerships, media sales, and event management.
Bass is also responsible for the communications strategy and outreach supporting the NBA’s Community and Player Programs department, which integrates all of the league's existing programs that promote player social and community responsibility and support player growth and development.
During his ten-year tenure with the NBA, Bass has served as a principal spokesperson on the league’s business initiatives and has been responsible for leading a group charged with promoting those diverse and varied business functions, which include NBA TV, NBA.com, Global Merchandising, International Marketing and Media, NBA Entertainment production and programming, the NBA Advertising Group, the NBA Store and NBA Interactive Licensing.
He joined the NBA in September 1997 and spent time as the Director of NBA Entertainment Communications, where he helped develop a new department solely dedicated to public relations for the league’s production and new media division.
Prior to joining the NBA, Bass worked as Senior Press Representative for the CBS television network. He was in charge of publicizing the network’s mini-series, movies, specials and event programming. Before that he was a Senior Account Executive at New York-based public relations/management firm, Dan Klores Communications.
In 2007, Bass was named to the New York City Board of the National Sports Marketing Network (NSMN).
Bass, a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, resides in Westport, Conn., with his wife Pam and two children.
