As Senior Vice President of International Development for the National Basketball Association, Mark Barak plays an important role in the league’s global expansion efforts. He is responsible for key international growth initiatives, overseeing international digital operations, corporate development, the league’s partnership with AEG in China, and other new business initiatives.
During his tenure at the NBA, Barak has significantly expanded the league’s international digital presence, leading landmark digital content partnerships with Sina and Tencent in China, launching local official NBA online destinations in many of the NBA’s strategic international markets, and overseeing the launch of the NBA’s international video platform NBA.TV. In addition, he serves as a board member of the NBA’s Arena Joint Venture in China, supervising the league’s investment in the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai.
Prior to joining the NBA in 2009, Barak held various positions, including Senior Vice President, Corporate Finance & Strategy, at EMI Group in London, where he played a central role in the sale of EMI for $7.5 billion in 2007. Prior to his time at EMI, Barak was Vice President, Media Investment Banking, at Deustche Bank in London.
Barak received M.B.A. and bachelor of science in economics degrees from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
