Bulls to Celebrate 38 NBA Seasons with Hardwood Classics Night

Jan. 27, 2004 – The Chicago Bulls are planning a historical evening for the Chicago debut of its retro jerseys in its first Hardwood Classics Night at the United Center on Tuesday, Feb. 10.

To honor the occasion, the organization has planned to take the entire arena back to the days of the 70s and 80s when the uniforms were first worn. As both the Bulls and Indiana Pacers take the court in their retro uniforms they will be surrounded by music, video flashbacks and fashions that characterized the days of disco and the age of the valley girl.

From the moment the United Center gates open at 6 p.m., fans will be treated to an evening of nostalgia. Early-arriving guests will join the team in a blast to the past by receiving a Bulls retro jersey t-shirt courtesy of Blue Cross/Blue Shield while supplies last.

Throughout the evening, music from past pop artists such as The Bee Gees, Duran Duran, Kool & the Gang, Devo, ABBA and Wham will replace the usual array of today’s top hits. Video highlights on the scoreboard will transport fans back to the days of the retro Bulls including Bob Love, Jerry Sloan, Norm Van Lier and Tom Boerwinkle.

Former Public Address Announcer Tommy Edwards has agreed to reclaim his position behind the microphone to call the game. Edwards’ voice is synonymous with the Chicago Stadium as he held the post from 1976 until 1990.

To complete the package, the entire cast of Luvabulls, Matadors and other on-court performers will dress the part. The Bulls entertainers will appear in fashions from the days when Charlie’s Angels was a TV show and Drew Barrymore was helping an extra terrestrial phone home.

Fans can get in on the action by participating in IncrediBulls contests Sing 4 Your Supper and Dance 4 Your Supper. Both will be set to vintage tunes and will offer contestants the chance to show off their best vocal and dance moves. More timid fans can simply purchase their own Chicago Bulls throwback jerseys and other Bulls items at Fandemonium, the team apparel store.

This is the third consecutive season that NBA teams have recognized their past with a themed night. In addition to the Chicago Bulls, 11 other teams will participate in Hardwood Classics Nights during the 2003.04 NBA regular season.
