Summer league action in Utah is next for the second overall pick in 2002 NBA Draft
July 10, 2002 -- The Chicago Bulls today signed guard Jay Williams, the team’s first round (second overall) draft pick in NBA Draft 2002. In accordance with team policy, terms of the contract were not released.
“It’s a true honor to be part of an organization that every little kid once dreamed about,” said Williams.
Williams will begin his professional career next week in the Rocky Mountain Revue, a summer league based in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Bulls will play six games in eight nights.
A 6-2, 195-pound guard, Williams earned the Naismith and Wooden awards last season, was the Associated Press College Basketball Player of the Year and was a unanimous First Team All-American in his final season at Duke University. For his three-year career, Williams averaged 19.3 ppg and 6.0 apg, shooting .453 from the floor and .393 from three-point range, led the Blue Devils to a 95-13 record and helped the team to the 2001 NCAA National Championship.
Williams, 20, was drafted second overall in NBA Draft 2002 by the Bulls.
