August 16, 2002 -- The Chicago Bulls today signed veteran free agent forward Donyell Marshall. In accordance with team policy, terms of the agreement were not released. The Bulls have scheduled a 2:00 PM (CDT) press conference at the Berto Center on Monday to introduce Marshall.

“We are extremely happy to have Donyell in our organization,” said Bulls Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations Jerry Krause. “He is an eight-year veteran with excellent skills and has the character we want in our players. He can play either the three or the four position and was a starter at the three position with Utah the last two years. His averages against Eastern Conference teams were three points and two rebounds higher than against Western Conference teams and he’s a natural fit for us.”

A 6-9, 230-pound forward, Marshall has appeared in 519 career NBA games, making 292 starts and averaging 12.0 ppg, 6.8 rpg and 1.6 apg, shooting .433 from the floor, .315 from three-point range and .724 from the free throw line. He has recorded 109 career double-doubles, including five career games in which he scored 20+ points and grabbed 20+ rebounds.

Marshall played the last two seasons with the Utah Jazz, averaging 14.1 ppg, 7.3 rpg and 1.7 apg, shooting .510 from the floor, .318 from three-point range and .731 from the free throw line. The eight-year NBA veteran finished second on the team in scoring and rebounding in each of the last two seasons, helping the Jazz to playoff appearances in each campaign.

Prior to being traded to Utah, Marshall played six-and-a-half seasons with the Golden State Warriors. In 1999-2000, his final season with Golden State, the forward averaged 14.2 ppg and career highs of 10.0 rpg and 2.6 apg, finishing as one of only eight players in the NBA to average a point-rebound double-double. In 1997-98, Marshall finished third in voting for NBA Most Improved Player after averaging 15.4 ppg, 8.6 rpg and 2.2 apg, shooting .413 from the floor, .313 from three-point range and .731 from the free throw line.

Drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round (fourth overall) of the 1994 NBA Draft, Marshall was traded to the Golden State Warriors mid-way through his rookie campaign. Named to the All-Rookie Second Team, he averaged 12.6 ppg, 5.6 rpg and 1.22 bpg, connecting on a career-high 69 three-point field goals.
