    April 9, 2004 -- The Chicago Bulls announced today that CDW/HP has selected guard Kirk Hinrich as recipient of the CDW/HP Chicago Bulls Player of the Year for the 2003.04 season. The 6-3, 190-pounder was also selected CDW/HP Player of the Month in both January and February for his outstanding play.

    Chicago drafted Hinrich in the first round of NBA Draft 2003 (seventh overall) and the rookie point guard has appeared in 72 of Chicago’s 76 games to date, including 62 starting assignments. He has posted averages of 11.9 ppg, a team-high 6.6 apg, 3.4 rpg, 1.36 spg and a team-high 35.2 mpg, while shooting .383 from the floor, including .384 from three-point range, and .810 from the free throw line. He has led the team in assists 44 times and in points 11 times.

    Hinrich’s best stretch of the season came during February. Through February’s 11 games, he averaged 14.8 ppg, 8.1 apg, 4.5 rpg and 2.00 spg, while shooting .397 from the floor, including .453 from three-point range, and .957 from the free throw line. He led the team in assists in all 11 games and in scoring on two occasions. In the final game of that month versus Golden State (02/28), he tallied his first career triple-double with 12 rebounds, 11 points and 10 assists in an 87-81 Bulls win. He is the only rookie to record a triple-double this season.

    Among NBA leaders statistically, Hinrich ranks eighth in assists per game (6.6), 15th in the NBA in three-point field goals made (133), tied 22nd in steals per game (1.36), 31st in three-point field goal percentage (.384) and 39th in free throw percentage (.810).

    Among rookies, he is first in assists per game (6.6), third in steals per game (1.36), third in three-point field goal percentage (.384), third in minutes per game (35.2), fourth in points per game (11.9), fourth in free throw percentage (.810), and 14th (tied) in rebounds per game (3.4). His 13 double-doubles is also tops among all rookies.
