The Chicago Bulls announced today that Jay Hillock has been named the team’s Director of Pro Personnel. Hillock joins the Bulls after most recently serving as the Director of Player Personnel for the New York Knicks.

Hillock spent the previous two-plus seasons with the Knicks scouting the NBA, NBDL and other professional leagues. Prior to his time in New York, he logged five years with the Vancouver Grizzlies as Director of Scouting. He has also served as an advance scout spending two seasons with the Washington Bullets and one with the Utah Jazz.

“We are excited to add a basketball person the caliber of Jay Hillock to our organization,” said Bulls Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations John Paxson. “Jay’s NBA personnel expertise will augment the versatility of our scouting staff, allow us to increase our base of knowledge on NBA players, and serve as another knowledgeable voice when dealing with prospective pro player acquisitions.”

He began his coaching career as an assistant at Santa Barbara City College and was head coach at his alma mater, Gonzaga University from 1981-82 to 1984-85. During his four seasons with Gonzaga, he guided the Bulldogs to a 60-50 record. In 1990 he was named head coach at Loyola Marymount University, a position he held for two seasons. In his six years as a collegiate head coach, he compiled a coaching record of 91-78.

The 55-year old Hillock is a native of Indianapolis and was raised in Santa Barbara. He graduated with a history degree from Gonzaga in 1971 and received a master’s degree from Cal Poly in 1975.
