Fizer Earns All-Rookie Honors
May 17, 2001 - The NBA today announced that Bulls rookie forward Marcus Fizer was named to the league's second team All-Rookie squad.
Fizer averaged 9.5 points (third on the team) and 4.3 rebounds (fourth), shooting .430 from the floor and .727 from the free throw line. The 6-9, 262-pound forward scored 10 or more points 32 times and averaged 12.2 points and 4.9 rebounds, shooting .484 over the final 34 games of the season. Fizer scored in double figures in each of his final seven games, averaging 13.6 points, including 21 points in 24 minutes off the bench in a victory over Washington on April 11. That win snapped the Bulls' franchise-record 25-game road losing streak.
Drafted by the Bulls in the first round (fourth overall) of NBA Draft 2000, Fizer scored a career-high 26 points at Vancouver on February 3. On March 16, Fizer scored 25 points and had 10 rebounds in 38 minutes versus Seattle.
Fizer's honor marks the second straight season a Chicago Bull has been named to the second team (Ron Artest in 2000). This marks only the third time in Bulls' history the team has had All-Rookie honorees in back-to-back seasons (Reggie Theus, 1979 and David Greenwood, 1980 and Michael Jordan, 1985 and Charles Oakley, 1986).
