As a senior, Gonzaga's Dan Dickau became the first Associated Press First Team All-America selection in school history. He was also was named to the John Wooden Award Top Five in Player of the Year balloting, as well as being a finalist for the Naismith Player of the Year Award. The 6-0, 190-pound guard, who played four years of college basketball and averaged 21.0 ppg as a senior, was at the Berto Center on Wednesday for a private workout with the Bulls. After the session, in which J.R. Bremer and Henry Domercant were also a part of, Dickau visited with Bulls.com and here is what he had to say:
Bulls.com:
How did your workout go?
Dan Dickau:
"I think the workout went well. I shot the ball well and that is going to be looked at as one of my strengths. Hopefully I showed them a few other things, too. I'm not going to back down and I want to play defense; I want to do all of those kinds of things. Overall, I think it went well."
Bulls.com:
What can you say about having four years of college under your belt?
Dickau:
"College is a special place, especially up at Gonzaga. I was able to meet a lot of great guys and become great friends with them. I consider a lot of them to be like my brothers and, without growing up with any brothers, that was kind of nice. Just traveling different places and experiencing new things with guys the same age was fun. At Gonzaga, being totally committed to winning basketball games and improving as a player, that was something special as well."
Bulls.com:
Is there a player in the league that you compare your game to?
Dickau:
"I think the easy comparisons are John Stockton and Steve Nash. I think I may be a cross between both of them. I hope I have as successful of a career as both of them had or are having--John is towards the end of career and Steve is starting to come into his own. It's exciting to see both of those guys because we have similar backgrounds being from the same conference.
Bulls.com:
Have you talked to either Stockton or Nash for advice?
Dickau:
"Yeah, I've talked to both of them. I've had more contact with Stockton because he worked out with us in the fall at Gonzaga. I would workout with him every day and he was always real positive and encouraging. He told me not to worry about anything and that if you are good enough to play in the NBA, that they will find you."
Bulls.com:
What do you know about the current Bulls team?
Dickau:
"They are extremely young, I know that. But they've got a lot of guys with quite a bit of potential. It's just in the NBA, from what it seems like, there is a big learning curve. They are starting out on that learning curve but they've got tons of potential and it's looking like they've got the right pieces together. It might just be some more time before they are really tough again."
Bulls.com:
What's your take on Chicago in general?
Dickau:
"I like it. It's obviously a big city but it doesn't feel that way, other than getting stuck in traffic jams. You don't find too many of those in Spokane. But I do like Chicago."
Bulls.com:
Have you gotten any kind of feel for where you may be drafted?
Dickau:
"No. It's still way too early to tell. There is going to be a lot of speculation and rumors going on in the next few weeks but that's stuff I'll let my agent deal with and worry about. I just need to go out to these workouts and be myself and go after it as hard as I can."
