Deng named Bulls CDW/Blackberry RIMCommunity Player of the Year
April 13, 2010 -- Chicago Bulls forward Luol Deng has been named the CDW/Blackberry RIM Community Player of the Year. CDW will present Deng with the award during a pre-game ceremony at tonight’s game versus the Boston Celtics.
This season, for the fifth straight year, Deng provided a Thanksgiving dinner for more than 700 visitors to the Pacific Garden Mission homeless shelter for the holiday. He also hosted the Chicago Housing Authority’s annual kids’ holiday party at the Shedd Aquarium where he purchased and distributed toys for the approximately 400 children who attended the event.
Deng, a native of Sudan, also contributes on a regular basis to the Lost Boys of Sudan foundation. He hosted the annual Lost Boys of Sudan “Hope for Sudan” celebration this year to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Sudan’s Comprehensive Peace Agreement and the Sudanese Independence Day. It also marked the celebration for the Lost Boys birthdays. Immigration paperwork marks January 1, as the birthday for all of the Sudanese boys.
Additionally, Deng also does community work through his charity foundation. The Luol Deng Foundation is dedicated to assisting those in need by providing resources and creating opportunities for a better way of life. With hope, integrity and faith as values, the foundation’s wellness, educational and recreational programs encourage and promote progress and improvement in our community and in Sudan.
The Bulls join CDW in saluting Luol Deng as this year’s recipient of the Community Player of the Year award.
