Meet Luvabull Shanon
Hi, I'm from Chicago, I went to DePaul and have a Masters in the Arts in Sociology/Law and Society, Masters of the Arts in Communications/Media Sutdies, a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. I am currently a post-graduate student, Model, and Dance Program Coordinator: Head Coach Depaul University.
I have been dancing over 20 Years focusing on such techniques as classical ballet, tap and jazz. As a Member of The Dance Academy Moves Group I performed at functions throughout Illinois. Ice Skating was my passion for years and I danced and competed local and national on ice with the Chicago Skates Precision Team. I was a member of St. Ignatius College Prep High School Competition Dance Squad, and continued dancing in college with the DePaul University Demonettes for four years as a Performer and Captain. Dancing and performing with an Anti-Drug Dance Entertainment Group whose purpose is to be a positive influence in our youth gave me the opportunity to work with multi-talented musicians, composers, and performers whose passion for music is aimed at improving the lives of our youth through music. Presently I am the Program Director and Head Coach for DePaul University's Dance Team. As I commence my Fifth year as a Chicago Luvabull, the awarding environment is allowing me to re-experience all styles of dance. As a third year Captain for the Chicago Luvabulls, I am again being given the opportunity to be a leader and an impressive role model.
My life ambition and dream is to continue to travel the world pursuing my modeling and dancing career, obtain my PhD in Education & Social Policy, and publish my book, "The Impact of Music in Education." I have high aspirations to support the educational system for our children and to enhance and remedy the institutional situations through governmental policy and be a part of creating a safer environment for children to live, grow, and prosper. I want to remember my past, but live in the present, and strive for the future. I hope to represent an impressive example in all aspects of learning, cultural enrichment, and life. I want to promote and emphasize to children the importance of family unity, expanded knowledge, and mental alertness permitting individuals to recognize and develop self worth and self confidence to face challenges head on. My ultimate desire is to have a family of my own which will be the center of my world.

A Motto that best describes my outlook on life: Always be a first rate version of yourself instead of a second rate version of someone else. Herman Melville stated, "it is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation." I am committed to work hard today to make tomorrow right.

My claim to fame is...
Currently I am Miss Illinois USA. Being a part of NBA History, was accomplished when I was selected as the Luvabulls Representative for the first ever NBA All-Star Dance Team! THANK YOU Chicago fans, for allowing me to have this experience and a lifetime opportunity. Just recently chosen by the NBA Organization to be featured in the 2009 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue is another honorable mention.

Why I chose to be a Luvabull
My family has always been huge Chicago Bulls Fans. I recall at the age of 3 attending a Chicago Bulls game with my brother's Cub Scouts Pack and receiving #23 Michael Jordan shirts (which was a dress for me and by the way I still have that shirt). I was so in Aww of the dancers and wanted to someday be one of them. When I became of age, I tried out and here I am. I was anxious at the try out but had loads of fun. I will forever remember my heart racing when I was making all the cuts. The final cut was phenomenal. Being on magazine covers, walking the runways in fashions shows, competing at numerous competitions are exciting and rewarding, but being a Luvabull is just as thrilling and spectacular. There is nothing like putting on a Luvabull's uniform and performing to the world's greatest fans at the United Center. Every year has been special. Traveling to different countries, performing and entertaining at international basketball games, being featured in newspapers and on radio and television, being selected as one of the NBA dancers featured in the upcoming 2009 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, representing the Chicago Bulls/Luvabulls as the 2007 NBA All Star Dancer at the 2007 NBA All Star Game, are just a few examples of why I love being a part of this fine organization. The thrill and joy of combining Dance and Basketball make my involvement a treasure. Not only do I dance weekly during basketball season in front of thousands of people, I have had the unforgettable pleasure of traveling the world dancing. Also I have the best seats (on the court, court side) to watch and cheer on my hometown's very own Chicago Bulls!
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, commemorating the blessings in life and how fortunate I have been. Must not forget to mention the great food!! I am so thankful for my healthy life, loving family, caring friends, and rewarding experiences.

Advice to young dancers
Always live your dreams and try new adventures regardless of how intimidating they are. America is a wonderful place with many opportunities to live and prosper. Acquainting the youth of today with programs that challenge them to get involved will assist them in gaining valuable experiences and the chance to build relationships that will last a lifetime. Dance is one of these programs. When our youth are involved with school or community activities they are off the streets, not thinking about guns, violence, and drugs, and leading a more productive life. How far you go in life depends on you being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong, because some day in life you will have been all of these.
