2011-12 Luvabulls: Meet Megan
What people do you admire the most and how have they supported or inspired you as a dancer?
I truly admire all the dancers on this team. Outsiders see all the glam of being a Luvabull, but it honestly takes a true athlete and strong person to be able to commit so much dedication and hard work behind it all.
I also admire my parents, who have been my backbone and support 100% with everything I have done throughout my entire life, especially dance. Throughout my childhood, they sacrificed a lot to make sure my siblings and I got many opportunities. They taught me the true meaning of working hard for something and absolutely never quitting anything…which to this day I see as such a beneficial piece of knowledge to have throughout life and to maintain success.
Describe the feeling of hearing your number called at tryouts as you made the Luvabulls.
When my number was called at tryouts, I was in complete shock. The moment was very surreal and it didn’t hit me that I had actually made the team until at least 30 minutes after I had left the audition. The feeling of all the hard work being paid off and the long time goal being met was absolutely amazing.
What is your proudest accomplishment to date and where do you see yourself in 10 years?
My proudest accomplishment to date would have to be that I can confidently say I am living my dream. At age 24, I have already been blessed with so many opportunities in my life. Being able to dance with the Luvabulls, having a successful job, having the greatest people in my everyday life, living in this wonderful city and overall just being happy is definitely a proud achievement.
Ten years from now, I’m not exactly sure where I will be living, but I can definitely say I will most likely have a family of my own, possibly with a couple little dancin’ ones. Hoping to still have dance somehow incorporated into my life, I’m sure I will be cheering on all my favorite Chicago sports teams, rooting on the Luvabulls and being nothing but happy and healthy.
How has your dancing experience led you to this point?
The constant drive and absolute love of performing has played a huge role in getting to this point in my life. Since I was 5 years old, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to dance in a studio, concentrating mostly on Ballet and Jazz. My numerous years of dancing combined with cheerleading since I was 12 years old, as well as a huge commitment to many other woman’s sports has taught me a huge amount of discipline and led me to fall in love with the art of performing.
My experience in dance has led me to help co-find a collegiate dance team at Illinois State University in which I danced on for two years, as well as dance a season for Chicago’s IFL (Indoor Football League) and to this day make the Luvabulls.
What is your claim to fame - besides being a Luvabull?
All the little awards and contests I’ve won, all the goals I’ve accomplished, all the positions I was voted for thus far in life is my claim to fame. I am so glad to see being a Luvabull can be added to the list!
What do you do for a living?
I am a Real Estate Leasing Agent for a high-rise apartment building downtown. I make sure the building’s residential apartments are being rented out on a daily basis as well as assist with all rental and property management issues. I also serve every now and then at one of your favorite Chicago restaurants. : )
What does being a member of the Luvabulls mean to you?
Being a member of the Luvabulls means I am in for an incredible experience! I have met a long-time goal of mine not only being a great dancer, but an overall successful athlete and this proves it. To be able to represent such a great team in the NBA, as well as this beautiful city by simply doing what I enjoy most will be just… amazing!
