2012-13 Luvabulls: Meet Erika
What does being a member of the Luvabulls mean to you?
Being a Luvabull means having dedication, always striving to be the best and learning from mistakes. It means not taking things for granted and being blessed for everything life has given me thus far. I feel that the Luvabulls have been very successful because of our hard-work and deep passion for dancing and performing. It also means being a loyal fan and an inspiration on the court by celebrating the Bulls and the city of Chicago through dance and cheer, all while living my dream.
How has your dancing experience led you to this point?
Having been trained in dance since a young age has allowed me to find a passion and comfort in performing in front of large groups of people. I have had many, incredible opportunities to dance on several dance teams, and I am grateful for all that I have learned and shared from many talented teammates. At this point in my life, I feel blessed to be part of the Luvabulls’ dance team, where I have made lasting relationships and friendships. I am fortunate to have had the opportunities the team has given me over the years, and the memories to last a lifetime.
What is your claim to fame—besides being a Luvabull?
My claim to fame would be the Budweiser commercial that was aired on Christmas Day to kick off the 2011-12 NBA season. It was an amazing experience shooting the commercial in Los Angeles, which made the holidays even more special.
What do you do for a living?
I am honored to be the Executive Director for a Senior Living Community where I am able to make a difference in people’s lives. It is a privilege to manage a community that helps seniors live their life to the fullest. It is rewarding to know that I not only have helped a senior, but their entire family.
Describe the feeling of performing at a Bulls playoff game.
It is an out-of-body experience while performing during a Bulls’ playoff game. The excitement of the game and the energy of the fans at the United Center are so intense that I get very anxious to dance on court! As much as possible, I try to be present in the moment and take in every minute of the game, from honoring America while the national anthem is being sung to dancing to Queen’s song of “Another One Bites the Dust” indicating a win!
What people do you admire the most and how have they supported or inspired you as a dancer?
I admire those who are optimistic and goal-oriented, who work hard to overcome obstacles and achieve goals and even dreams. Professionally, they inspire me to be a stronger leader and as far as a dancer, they inspire me to be that all-around dancer.
What is your proudest accomplishment to date and where do you see yourself in 10 years?
My proudest accomplishment to date is the ability to balance family, friends, a significant other, work and Luvabulls. I am fortunate for my support system because without them, I would not be truly happy of where I am in my life right now. In 10 years, I hope to continue to challenge myself and be successful in my profession, while having a family of my own, living a healthy and happy life and dancing like nobody is watching!
