2010-11 Luvabulls: Meet Catherine S.

Overland Park, KS

Loyola University of Chicago

What does being a member of the Luvabulls mean to you?

Being a Luvabull means being given the opportunity to do something I love at a level I never dreamed possible.

I am able to perform in the sold out United Center and travel around the world to dance. It’s an amazing experience.

How has your dancing experience led you to this point?

I have been dancing since I was 4 years old. My mom enrolled me in a tap and tumbling class and the rest was history. I have trained in tap, jazz, ballet, modern, lyrical and hip hop. I was on my high school dance team, and spent three years on the Loyola University Chicago Dance team. This is my fifth year as a Chicago Luvabull.

What is your claim to fame—besides being a Luvabull?

In college I was on the Oprah Show, I was one of Santa’s helpers for one of her “Favorite Things” episodes.

What people do you admire the most and how have they supported or inspired you as a dancer?

The person I admire the most is my mom. She has always been my biggest supporter in everything I have done in my life. She is the strongest person I know, and always gives the best and most honest advice, even if it’s not what you want to hear.

My mom has always encouraged and pushed me to the best I can be, and dance has always been a part of who I am.

What is your proudest accomplishment to date and where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I am proudest of balancing all of the different responsibilities I have at any given time. It might not be a very exciting, but my time management skills are fantastic!

In 10 years I hope that I and my family are happy and healthy, and I hope that I have done a lot more traveling. Outside of that, I’m just happy to see where life takes me.
