2011-12 Luvabulls: Meet Catherine R.
How has your dancing experience led you to this point?
Growing up, I participated in all types of dance from ballet, to tap, to jazz and even hip-hop. I also trained as a gymnast at the American Academy of Gymnastics from a very young age. In junior high school, I danced on a competition pompon team known as the Palatine Strutters. We traveled all over the world and even competed at the Walt Disney Wide World of Sports. In high school, I was a member of my schools cheerleading team and became captain of the varsity team my senior year. Throughout college, I continued to cheer and competed on an all-star, co-ed cheerleading team known as Cheer X. I feel that all of my dance, gymnastics and cheerleading experience, both competing and performing, have help train me to get to where I am today.
Describe the feeling of performing at a Bulls playoff game.
Performing at a Bulls payoff game is an indescribable feeling. The energy and excitement from the fans and players a like is infectious. It is such a thrill to be living my passion of dance on the United Center court, while being a part of NBA history. I am extremely blessed and truly love every minute, cheering for the Chicago Bulls.
What is your proudest accomplishment to date and where do you see yourself in 10 years?
My proudest accomplishment to date is training and completing the 2009 Bank of America Chicago Marathon. I trained for six months with the National AIDS Marathon Training Program along with raising over $1700 for the AIDS Foundation of Chicago in efforts to help in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Crossing the finish line on October 11, 2009 and knowing how hard I had worked to get there, made it a moment I will never forget.
In ten years, I plan on still being involved in the world of dance.
What does being a member of the Luvabulls mean to you?
Being a member of the Chicago Luvabulls is a dream come true for me. Ever since I was a little girl I have wanted to dance on the United Center court for one of the greatest teams in the NBA: the Chicago Bulls! When the opportunity presented itself to me, I was determined to make my dream come true. Being a member of the Luvabulls has been a privilege and an honor and I never take it for granted.
What do you do for a living?
For the last four years I have been the nanny for a family with three wonderful children. I have had the privilege to watch them grow and develop a lifelong bond with the entire family. Sadly, this past August, the family decided to relocate, and now it’s on to a new job, a new adventure and a new chapter in my life. Wish me luck!
What is your claim to fame - besides being a Luvabull?
My claim to fame is promoting the NBA cheerleading photo gallery for Maxim.com in Maxim magazine.
What people do you admire the most and how have they supported or inspired you as a dancer?
A dear friend of my mine not only supports and inspires me as a dancer but also as a person with qualities I strive to have. She knows exactly what she wants and goes after it. She always handles herself with grace and tries to find the positive in every situation despite the obstacles in front of her. She inspires me to push myself and go after the things I want in life, on and off the dance floor.
